This is the second of the blades made by the Komiya smiths using nails from the renouned Noma Dojo in Japan. This particular sword was forged by Yasumitsu one of the most well known of the Komiya smiths. Rather than write up all new prose, we're repeated some of what we wrote originally about the first of the Noma Dojo swords we sold.

Nihonto are the embodiment of the spirit of Bushido. Sword and swordsman; they both represent the pursuit of perfection of craft, technique, and character. Through repeated exposure to physical extremes, both sword and swordsman gain characteristics that in the end become a whole that is greater than its sum of parts. It is through experiencing of the hardest blows and the hottest fires can the sword and the swordsman become the epitome of their art, and without a word spoken, their characters are immediately evident for all to see. The forge and the dojo are the nursery for the spirit.

Occasionally, nihonto were, and still are, forged utilizing materials regarded as so special in nature that they would accentuate the finished work with the spirit of their former host. There were swords forged from the main gun barrels of the Battleship Mikasa, or steel from a particularly rare or highly regarded source. In this blade, iron nails from the world famous Noma Dojo were incorporated into the steel so that the memory of this once proud, famous, and innovative dojo would carry on, as well as the efforts and good will of it’s founder; Seiji Noma. Noma Dojo was unfortunately razed in 2007, but its memory thrives in this sword (one of two forged similarly). What could be more fitting to carry on the spirit of a great Kendo Dojo than a sword blade?
It has a full, somewhat robust shape with moderate nikuoki, is well balanced sword and currently is in Iai Iai polish. The O-choji midare yakiba is faintly visible, and a complete polish would bring the hamon and hada into full appreciation. It has no major flaws and would be a fine blade for use in martial arts or as a collectable when fully polished.
