Books for Sale
The Art of the Japanese Sword as Taught by the Experts
by Kunihira Kawachi and Masao Manabe
SOLD OUT

This is a new book we found at the San Francisco Token Kai. At this time it is a limited printing and we do not know how available it will be. It is an introductory book which includes fantastic photos of the modern smith Kunihira Kawachi working, his blades, and so forth. There are articles on sword appreciation, articles about famous swords in history (Kotetsu, Musashi's "oar", Kotetsu, Kojiro's Nagamitsu, etc.), cleaning and maintenance, how they're made, photos of the smith at work, general questions and answers, what life is like for the smith, and so forth. It is a marvelous book for the beginner or just the nihonto enthusiast who wants a really nice book with some very tasty photos of Kunihira's work.

At the end of the show we bought out all the copies left. There weren't many. Part of the reason for their popularity was that each copy was signed by Kunihira with a unique poem brushed in each. Don't ask us which poem is in which book, that's beyond our abilities. But suffice to say each book is hand brushed by Kunihira with a poem and each is unique.

The book has 156 pages, softcover, with lots of line drawings, color photos, black and white photos, and wonderful diagrams. It is a wonderful introduction to the modern craft and offers some very interesting insights into how the craft is practiced today.

We are sorry, but we are totally sold out of the signed copies of this book. Thank you.
