Price: SHOW SPECIAL -- See it at the West Coast Tai Kai!): $5,995.00 (SOLD)

The sword is signed: Un shu ju Sadanori saku kore
The ura is signed: Showa 59 nen 6 gatsu hi (A day in June 1984)
This sword has a nagasa of 27-7/8.
Sadanori apprenticed under his father Sadayoshi who was a student of Sadaichi Gassan. Sadanori forged this shinsakuto in 1984. Since that time he has won the Doryoku sho prize three time at Shinsakuto exhibitions. Nyusen well over 10 times (at least 14 that we know of). He is certified as a
Living Cultural Treasure of Shimane Prefecture and serves as an executive officer of the All Japan Swordsmith Association (Nippon Tosho Kai).
The skill Sadanori is easily seen in this early example of his work. The forging is tight and precise and the hamon is gorgeous.

This sword was mounted for use as a high end martial arts sword for a very high ranking Martial Arts instructor. The blade has been used for iai and the koshirae is in excellent condition. The fittings look Gendai although we do not know the full provenance of all the mounts. The tsuka was wrapped with a full wrap of samegawa and was done quite well. This mount is a clear step up above most mounts we're seeing done in Japan lately for more "user" swords.

The tsuka is wrapped in silk tsukaito and is tight and well fit. The entire rig would make an excellent "starter" collectors sword as well as a fanastic sword for the experienced martial artist. This is a serious sword with significant presence. And made by a smith who has become vastly more famous since this sword was forged. Getting a bare sword blade from a smith of this level today would cost most than this mounted and polished example from 1984.
